5 tips to make your house move in Cheshire stress-free

It’s a well-known fact that moving house is up there will one of the most stressful experiences in life to ever go through.  Finding the right property, getting the best price for your current home, co-ordinating moving dates and being swamped by boxes are just the tip of the iceberg. However, with plenty of years under our belt of buying and selling properties, we’ve put together five tips that help reduce the stress of moving house.

  1. Clear the clutter in advance

Once you’ve decided to sell your property, it’s a good time to start decluttering. All those clothes that don’t fit you anymore, toys that the kids have outgrown and bric-a-brac that you’ve been saving for a ‘rainy day’ – moving house is the perfect time to clear the decks and give them to a better home.  Doing this as soon as you’ve put your property on the market will allow your home to look less cluttered and reduce the stress of packing.

  1. Have all key information to hand

During the house sale, keep an electronic folder in your email of all-important correspondence from your solicitor, estate agent and removal company.  That way, anything important can easily be located from your phone on the week of the move without you having to trawl through lots of paperwork.

  1. Use a good solicitor

We can recommend good solicitors in the area who we know have a good track record in helping to expediate the sale of your property and deal with matters professionally. There’s nothing worse than being ready to exchange but solicitors are dragging their heels and holding things up. Our sales team help keep a track of sales progress on both sides of the chain and update you regularly, so you can plan your move in advance.

  1. Start packing when contracts are signed

As soon as contracts have been signed, you can start planning the logistics of your house move and begin the dreaded packing process.  A professional removals company can help pack up your items for you on the day of the move, but some prefer to pack themselves; giving you chance to sort through items as you pack.  Label boxes smartly so that the removals company know which room each box belongs and create a ‘Moving Day Survival Kit’ box with essential items you’ll need as soon as you get to the new property.

  1. Arrange cleaning

Home owners are expected to handover their property in a clean and presentable state to the new owners so don’t pack your bleach until you’ve done a good clean round! You may even want to employ a professional cleaning company to look after this important job for you.

With a bit of forward planning and a good estate agent on your side, the stress of moving house can be easily reduced, allowing you to enjoy the first few moments in your new home.
