Best Garden Buys for the Kids this Summer

Share

With the summer holidays fast approaching and this glorious sunny weather in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about how to keep the family entertained this season. There’s no better way to get the kids away from the temptation of screens and playing outdoors than garden games – so we’ve compiled a list of our favourite buys to transform your garden into a summer haven!

The Classic

It’s a classic British garden staple – and for good reason! Paddling pools are always a hit with younger children, and they’re also the perfect place for kids to cool off in this hot weather. Families with older children: never fear – we’re not expecting you to drum up enthusiasm from teenagers with a 6-inch pool. The Bestway Quick Up Pool boasts an impressive 10ft diameter yet taking only 2 minutes to inflate and is ideal for family fun with younger children, whilst also providing older kids with the perfect garden party piece when their friends come round to soak in the sun and, of course, can be transformed to an adult space to relax with a drink in hand of an evening when the kids are in bed!
On Your Marks, Get Set, Go!

Looking for something a little more adventurous? A slip ‘n’ slide is a top summer buy for competitive families who love an adrenaline rush. The Bestway H20GO has three lanes for head to head racing – simply roll out the mat and attach to your garden hose and you’re ready to go. Watch out grown-ups – there’s a pool at the end of the 18 foot lanes to end your run with a splash!
Marshmallow Toasting

Even as the evenings draw in and the temperatures get a little chillier, there’s nothing better than cuddling up round a fire as you watch the sun set and the stars come out. A chiminea is a great garden buy to enjoy the simple beauty of flickering flames, and is a safe for children too with a small front opening only. The kids can grab some skewers and a big bag of marshmallows and roast to their hearts delight – they could even get stuck in to an American tradition and squash those gooey toasted marshmallows between two chocolate biscuits to create a S’more!
Get Growing

Why not pop down to your local garden centre and pick up some strawberry plants? It’s officially strawberry season and growing them couldn’t be easier – all you need is a pot and compost! Kids will love being able to pick their favourite fruit straight from the garden, and it’s a great way to teach them about sustainability and where our food comes from.
Go Bigger

There’s no need to forego your family’s favourite games when the heat of the summer is calling you outside – you can buy ‘giant’ versions of your favourites! Giant Jenga and Giant Four in a Row are great for kids who like a more strategic-thinking game to play, and you can even turn it into an all-day tournament and compete for prizes.
Fiesta Time!

If you’re throwing a BBQ for friends and family and planning on having some adult time, you need to make sure there’s enough to keep the kids entertained whilst you relax. Why not get something a little more special for the children and buy a piñata? It’ll make the kids feel like they’re having their very own party, and they’ll be kept entertained for hours as they try to battle the blindfold to find and open the piñata! You can get one for less than £10, and can fill it with a whole host of prizes. As well as the usual sweets and chocolates, why not include pencils, colouring books and comics, so that your children and their friends have even more to do after they’ve won?
No matter what your budget, there’s plenty of hot summer buys this season to keep the whole family entertained, no matter what age!
