Christmas – Selling the Festive Dream

Share

During a house viewing, prospective buyers have so much on their mind – thinking about all kinds of aspects of a house, including the room size, garden, number of bathrooms as well as the location and local amenities.  Here at Wright Marshall, we think if you can imagine yourself spending Christmas in a house, then it can certainly be made a home.

As we’re in the run up to Christmas, we think it’s a great idea to help feed the imagination of house viewers by transforming your house into a stylish winter wonderland.

Nothing says winter like a glass of mulled wine, so why not have a pot of it slowly bubbling away on the stove to fill your house with fruity and spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg?  Couple that with a batch of mince pies baking in the oven, the ultimate festive food to make someone feel right at home.  Time your mince pies with the arrival of your potential buyers, serving them up with a sprinkle of icing sugar on the top.

Any festive space needs to be topped off with an evergreen spiced fragrance which really creates the perfect Christmas atmosphere – Crabtree and Evelyn’s Noël room spray truly delivers.  It has the scent of fir trees with citrus fruits and mulled spices – in other words, it’s Christmas in a bottle.

To give your potential buyers the full “Christmassy” package, perhaps you could play some festive music quietly in the background to help paint the perfect Christmas picture.  If you’re thinking of going traditional, any Christmas Crooners CD that features Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole would do the trick – you certainly can’t go wrong with that.  It’s also the time of year that Michael Bublé’s now-classic Christmas album comes out of hiding, so that would be a strong contender for setting the Christmas scene too.

You’ve got the scent, taste and sound of Christmas sorted but this needs to be brought together with the ultimate look of Christmas with some on-trend decorations.  Think of your home as a blank canvas, just waiting to be turned into a winter wonderland.  Tinsel is definitely making a comeback this year and these days, there’s so many different designs – for example, the holly leaf tinsel from John Lewis is certainly unique and would look great along a mantel piece or wrapped around a staircase banister.  You can even get creative with a simple glass vase by putting some fairy lights in it – creating a lovely soft glow for your living room.  Copper, rose gold and bronze are already interior favourites which means this festive season you can really embrace the metallic colour palette and add some sparkle to your decorations, like this stylish hanging decoration from Sass and Belle or these gold baubles from Next.

Moving onto flowers, you certainly can’t go wrong with a poinsettia – popular for its red and green foliage at Christmas time, as well as the evergreen Christmas rose.  Before your house viewers have even set foot into the house, give them that festive feeling with a Christmas wreath such as the traditional Winterberry wreath adorned with pinecones and berries from Marks and Spencer.

However you choose to prepare your home for house viewings this Christmas time, we hope we’ve offered you a little inspiration and from all of us here at Wright Marshall, we hope you have a merry Christmas.
